I can't begin to describe how great of an experience we had working with Larry on an exterior restoration of our house. Our 1910 craftsman home had a big issue with paint bubbling due to many layers of incompatible types of paint used over the years. Our home still had the original cedar siding and we couldn't imagine replacing it. At first we didn't know where to start. Most contractors were either painters that didn't handle the type of surface preparation needed to deal with paint bubbling or siding specialists that only provided removing and replacing siding. Just when we were losing hope of finding the right contractor, we read a very positive review on Angie's list about how Larry and his team were able to help someone else in a similar situation. I called Larry the next day and I am so happy I did. Although we originally reached out to Larry about painting, we were very happy to learn that his team could tackle a number of other projects for our home's exterior as well. We worked with Larry to come up with a holistic plan for a complete exterior restoration that fit our budget. Coming up with the plan was a fun process that got us very excited about the project. It also made us realize how passionate Larry is about making old homes shine! In addition to the difficult surface preparation needed before painting, Larry's team also handled a number of repairs. A section of siding had rotted and they were able to replace just that section with new cedar siding (preserving as much as possible). The back corner of the house is an addition and was originally done with a different siding that didn't match the cedar used for the rest of the house. Larry's team figured out how to replace the siding in this section with new cedar siding and have it blend in seamlessly with the original by interweaving it. The result far exceeded our expecationation of what was even possible! Larry's team also stained our fence, fixed window frames, repaired gates, and the list goes on. The front porch is where we worked with Larry to go beyond repairs and try something new and exciting. The biggest change was replacing a small window on the porch with an incredible piece of antique stained glass that Larry helped source. The stained glass was much taller and skinnier than the original window. Larry's team was able to create a new window frame and install the glass in record time. Larry went the extra mile to make sure the lighting was perfect and had back lighting installed behind the window. The ceiling of the porch was also replaced with new cedar panels with a translucent high gloss stain. Larry's team also created custom caps for the posts on the stairs leading up the porch to replace the warped metal ones that were there previously. The new caps are beautifully topped with amber glass. The combination of the stained glass, the glass caps, improved lighting and the refraction off the high gloss ceiling transformed the space into something really special. We couldn't be happier. I strongly recommend Larry and his team to anyone looking to restore an older home or add improvements in keeping with the home's original style. Thornton House Painting

Paint made for the exterior of a house is formulated differently from that destined for interior paint jobs. Exterior house paint is blended to withstand rain, wind, and varying temperatures, while interior house paint is formulated to hide minor imperfections such as brush marks, handprints, and scuffs. Interior paints can be made washable for convenience, and doesn’t require exposure to light to cure.
Painting the exterior of your home is an investment. Whether you want a fresh new look, or your paint is in disrepair, it will cost roughly $3600 – $4800 to repaint an average 2500 square-foot two-story home. Why the wide range in price? Because more than color, paint is a layer of protection against the elements. It shields siding from water damage and keeps insects away, so quality matters. Thornton House Painting
Seattle Paint and Drywall I normally write reviews for two reason; the first for a job that ended as if a grade schooler did the work, and second if the work was not only completed to my specks, but the demeanor of the owner as well as the workers. I like people that will interact as well as update me as needed and complete the work in the specified time and like I said, completed to the specks in which the owner or supervisor said it would be. I contacted Patrick Sears, the owner and told him what we were looking at (paint the exterior of our home), and we set a date for Patrick to come out and give us and estimate. I was impressed with Patrick on our first contact. Patrick was very business-like but also friendly and easy to speak with. We went through everything and he explained things I wasn’t sure about. That is the way a business should be run. Because of his and his crews schedule he said it would be a couple of weeks before they could come out to do the job, which was no big deal for us. Patrick stayed in contact and we figured out the colors we wanted, he was a great help. On the day the painters arrived, Manuel introduced himself and the crew. My wife and I were really impressed with Manuel. He was friendly, knowledgeable and kept us informed throughout the project. They ensured paint chips were removed and the wood was cleaned before painting. The project (overall) was a little over two days. The last day Kevin (I think that was his name), came over and touched up whatever needed to be touched up. Like the others, Kevin was awesome! Kevin, like the rest of the team was very friendly and wanted nothing more than to ensure our job was done to our satisfaction (which it was). The touch ups were completed, everything was cleaned up, it was great. So, you ask… Would I contact Seattle Pain and Drywall again, or recommend them? Without hesitation! They were awesome! Their work was flawless and demeanor professional and interested in what we wanted. The work was done correctly, on time and the price was good. They don’t use cheap paint that will peel off in a couple of months, and the crew was friendly, respectful, and easy to talk with. We plan on having them back to do the interior before we move. Thanks Seattle Paint and Drywall. Robert and Terri, Arlington Washington

In addition to covering more surface, painting a multi-story home requires additional equipment. Scaffolds, for example, take longer to erect, move and disassemble, and climbing up and down ladders takes time. Minor repairs are more complicated — tasks that may take only one painter at ground level require two for safety at higher elevations. In general, expect a 20–60% premium for each level your home has in addition to the additional square footage.
"Dans Painting Service was called when another contractor who started the job had completed it only in part. Due to their pressure washing the roof with too much pressure, much of the dormer and fascia trim upstairs on our large and once lovely home was left poorly. Some parts were damaged. Dan and crew helped to get the bad business that occurred repaired as well as possible and our house looks almost new again. We are so pleased by their expert repairs where they could make them and also where they finished the job in three days. I am so grateful that they could come in and take on the mess and were so professional and quick to see that we are now sealed in for winter with the lovely coat of white satin paint that makes our house glisten again. We have a very steep roof and the trim boards on all of the dormers and some siding, too, were extremely difficult to reach. It was a dangerous and exhausting job just to carry and control the high ladders they had to use. Had they not been such experienced men, they probably would not have even wanted to help us out. We were left with only four warm days predicted,so Dan went more than the extra mile to get the job done . I am extremely grateful to him and to his crew and will hire him back again! He does stand behind his work and checked to see that all was done to our complete and happy satisfaction." Thornton House Painting

I solicited 7 bids for my getting my house and garage repainted. Far and away, Runland Painting had the most professional bid and a reasonable price. I was very impressed by their technical expertise and how they explained it to a non-expert like myself. The actual job turned out great. John responded promptly to all my concerns and his team worked extremely hard. I would recommend them to anyone looking for exterior paint work. House Painting Thornton
Tipping house painters is good etiquette. You can base the tip on the size of the crew, and request the amount to be evenly divided. Or, you can leave a tip based on the size of the job and leave it up to the foreman to decide how it is distributed among the crew. Sometimes — especially with big projects — the painters on the job change during the course of the project, so it’s often customary to leave one tip for the whole job. Thornton Home Painting

Generally speaking, a gallon of paint will cover about 350 square feet. If this is the first time drywall is painted, it will soak up more paint. And remember to factor in whether your job will require one or two coats of paint. Dark and bright colors will require more coats of paint, as will painting a lighter color over an existing darker color. Divide the paintable wall surface by 350 to determine how many gallons of paint you will need to buy. If there’s an odd number with less than .5 leftover, round down, if it’s over .5 round up. Climate is another factor to consider. Sunlight, wind, rain and salty weather can all wear out exterior paint. Oil-based paint is durable against wind, rain and temperature changes, but sunlight tends to degrade it. Alkyd paint chalks and sheds very thin layers when it begins to wear. Latex paint is the more durable option for very sun-drenched and relatively dry climate areas. Latex paint with high vinyl content should be avoided, however. Acrylic resin is by far the more durable binder for outdoor latex paint. Thornton Home Painting

Oil-based products have a reputation for durability, but latex and acrylic have come a long way. High traffic areas, such as porch floors, benefit from oil paints, but latex and acrylic are excellent choices other surfaces. They’re less expensive, require only water to clean, and most are low-VOC. Your contractor will work with you to choose paints based on your needs and area weather conditions.
There are permanent features of the home that have their own colors which cannot be changed when painting the exterior of the home but can have a dramatic satisfaction level that is experienced when the painting is completed.  Roofing shingles, paving blocks, concrete surfaces, stones and other such features are prime examples of the colors that should be considered when selecting your exterior color scheme for the home.  Homeowners can work off of these colors to make a home that looks uniform and luxurious when the exterior painting is complete.
