Like metal siding, brick and masonry are easy to brush down and clean with a solution of water and triphosphate sodium — but they take longer to dry. They can be brush painted — but spray painting cost less – about $1.50–$2.00 per square foot. Both methods offer good coverage, but many painters recommend brush painting brick because it forces the paint into more nooks and crannies for a longer-lasting finish. House Painting Thornton
There’s no doubt about it: weather and time can take a toll on a house’s paint job. Sooner or later, most homeowners will need to tackle interior and exterior painting projects. The cost of painting a house will vary depending on many factors. If you have the time and energy, you can save money and paint a house yourself, and you just need to factor in the cost of paint and materials, as well as the value of your time. I can't begin to describe how great of an experience we had working with Larry on an exterior restoration of our house. Our 1910 craftsman home had a big issue with paint bubbling due to many layers of incompatible types of paint used over the years. Our home still had the original cedar siding and we couldn't imagine replacing it. At first we didn't know where to start. Most contractors were either painters that didn't handle the type of surface preparation needed to deal with paint bubbling or siding specialists that only provided removing and replacing siding. Just when we were losing hope of finding the right contractor, we read a very positive review on Angie's list about how Larry and his team were able to help someone else in a similar situation. I called Larry the next day and I am so happy I did. Although we originally reached out to Larry about painting, we were very happy to learn that his team could tackle a number of other projects for our home's exterior as well. We worked with Larry to come up with a holistic plan for a complete exterior restoration that fit our budget. Coming up with the plan was a fun process that got us very excited about the project. It also made us realize how passionate Larry is about making old homes shine! In addition to the difficult surface preparation needed before painting, Larry's team also handled a number of repairs. A section of siding had rotted and they were able to replace just that section with new cedar siding (preserving as much as possible). The back corner of the house is an addition and was originally done with a different siding that didn't match the cedar used for the rest of the house. Larry's team figured out how to replace the siding in this section with new cedar siding and have it blend in seamlessly with the original by interweaving it. The result far exceeded our expecationation of what was even possible! Larry's team also stained our fence, fixed window frames, repaired gates, and the list goes on. The front porch is where we worked with Larry to go beyond repairs and try something new and exciting. The biggest change was replacing a small window on the porch with an incredible piece of antique stained glass that Larry helped source. The stained glass was much taller and skinnier than the original window. Larry's team was able to create a new window frame and install the glass in record time. Larry went the extra mile to make sure the lighting was perfect and had back lighting installed behind the window. The ceiling of the porch was also replaced with new cedar panels with a translucent high gloss stain. Larry's team also created custom caps for the posts on the stairs leading up the porch to replace the warped metal ones that were there previously. The new caps are beautifully topped with amber glass. The combination of the stained glass, the glass caps, improved lighting and the refraction off the high gloss ceiling transformed the space into something really special. We couldn't be happier. I strongly recommend Larry and his team to anyone looking to restore an older home or add improvements in keeping with the home's original style. House Painting Thornton
The cost of paint is easy to calculate, and additional expenses rarely add much to the total cost of a project. The price of labor, however, rises steeply based on the complexity of the work. A simple one-story ranch in good repair is a breeze to paint, multi-story homes in poor condition or with extensive architectural features are much more challenging. See below the differences between the cost to paint a 2-story home vs a ranch style: Thornton House Painting
"Spraying NorthWest is a reliable, consistent, professional team that did a fantastic job on the exterior of my house. What I appreciate most about their work is that it's neat, easy and they offered up some great suggestions when I was on the fence with some colors. They were affordable and on time. I would definitely recommend them and would use them again."
The color scheme that is chosen for the home creates the initial impression that an individual has of the premises as a whole. Whether complimentary or unflattering colors are selected, the house will gain an identity of its own when the paint is applied. There are many times that a homeowner misses opportunities to accentuate positive attributes that the home has to offer by failing to choose the best exterior paint colors.
"Dans Painting Service was called when another contractor who started the job had completed it only in part. Due to their pressure washing the roof with too much pressure, much of the dormer and fascia trim upstairs on our large and once lovely home was left poorly. Some parts were damaged. Dan and crew helped to get the bad business that occurred repaired as well as possible and our house looks almost new again. We are so pleased by their expert repairs where they could make them and also where they finished the job in three days. I am so grateful that they could come in and take on the mess and were so professional and quick to see that we are now sealed in for winter with the lovely coat of white satin paint that makes our house glisten again. We have a very steep roof and the trim boards on all of the dormers and some siding, too, were extremely difficult to reach. It was a dangerous and exhausting job just to carry and control the high ladders they had to use. Had they not been such experienced men, they probably would not have even wanted to help us out. We were left with only four warm days predicted,so Dan went more than the extra mile to get the job done . I am extremely grateful to him and to his crew and will hire him back again! He does stand behind his work and checked to see that all was done to our complete and happy satisfaction."
Paint made for the exterior of a house is formulated differently from that destined for interior paint jobs. Exterior house paint is blended to withstand rain, wind, and varying temperatures, while interior house paint is formulated to hide minor imperfections such as brush marks, handprints, and scuffs. Interior paints can be made washable for convenience, and doesn’t require exposure to light to cure.

Oil-based products have a reputation for durability, but latex and acrylic have come a long way. High traffic areas, such as porch floors, benefit from oil paints, but latex and acrylic are excellent choices other surfaces. They’re less expensive, require only water to clean, and most are low-VOC. Your contractor will work with you to choose paints based on your needs and area weather conditions. Thornton House Painting

Better paints are thicker because they have a higher percentage of resin to water. You’ll pay more because there are more raw ingredients in the can, but each gallon covers more surface area and hides older colors more thoroughly. All-in-one paint and primer formulas are thicker versions of regular paint, and their coverage is exceptional. In the long run, you’ll save by using less, and the results will speak for themselves.
